Our Story
In January 2022, Dominique and Corinne Godin founded "The Children of Kabale" with the primary goal of improving the lives of 38 children who were living in dire conditions. These children were not only starving, with just 4 meals a week, but they also lacked access to basic necessities such as clean water and education.
Dominique's Journey
Dominique Godin, who retired in 2021 after a distinguished career as Export Director for Africa at Domino Printing Sciences, decided to channel his passion for travel and adventure into a mission to help those in need. During a motorcycle trip in 2021, he came across a photo posted by a friend, which led him to Kabale, Uganda.
There, he met Nahwera Meron, who was selflessly caring for the children despite facing significant hardships herself.
Nahwara´s Dedication
Nahwera, a graduate in Land Use Planning and Management, had been living in Kabale for four years under challenging conditions. Despite her qualifications, the COVID-19 pandemic had thwarted her job prospects, leaving her to work as a waitress for minimal pay. She dedicated her limited resources to helping the children, providing them with whatever support she could.
Our Achievements
Since its inception, The Children of Kabale has made significant strides:
- Improved Living Conditions: Nahwara now resides in a small apartment with water and electricity, allowing her to provide the children with clean water and a safer environment.
- Access to Education: All school-age children are now attending school regularly, either as half-boarders or full-boarders, ensuring they receive at least two meals a day.
- Health Improvements: The children's health has vastly improved, with fewer illnesses and better access to medical care. Special care is provided for those with chronic conditions.
- Land Acquisition: In August 2022, we purchased 2500 sqm of land to cultivate vegetables, aiming to provide food for the children during school holidays and build a house for them in the future.
Future Plans
Our plans include building a central house on the land we acquired, which will host the children and provide them with a stable home. This ambitious project will require significant fundraising and support from donors. We are committed to ensuring that these children have the opportunity to grow up in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Corinne, co-founder of The Children of Kabale, works alongside Dominique to provide essential support and resources, ensuring the well-being and development of the children in Uganda.
Nahwera Meron
Nahwera, the local project leader in Kabale, Uganda, oversees the daily operations and care for the children, ensuring they receive education, healthcare, and nutritious meals.
